I visited Athens Greece in August of 2003.
I returned to Greece in May of 2026, visiting three islands with my wife. We first visited Kefalonia (aka Cephalonia), staying 4 nights at White Rocks Hotel & Bungalows Kefalonia (bungalow 12).
On Kefalonia we
visited Melissani Lake (subterranean gem known for its shimmering blue waters),
drove thru Agia Efimia (quaint and colorful village with a tranquil harbor),
visited and had lunch in Fiscardo (fishing village),
drove thru Assos Vilage and viewed its harbor, and
stopped at the Myrtos Beach viewpoint.
On our last full day in Kefalonia, we spent the day enjoying the resort.
After checking out of the hotel, we visited downtown Argostolion (Kefalonia's main town).
We then flew from Kefalonia to Mykonos for 4 nights at Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa (room 908).
On Mykonos, we started our exploring by walking to the new ferry dock, taking a water taxi, and then visiting Mykonos Town (aka Old Port) which is a walking-only area. This first picture is a view of the hotel we were staying at from the new ferry dock.
We then got a tour of the island and visited
Fanari (lighthouse on NW corner of island),
Panagia Tourliani Monastery (middle of island),
Super Paradise Beach Club (on bay on S shore of island), and
Nammos World (upscale small shopping area).
We finished the day with some more time at the resort pool and the short journey back to Mykonos Town.
On Wednesday May 13th, we relaxed at the hotel and also took a final walk along the beach and thru Mykonos Town.
The next day, we took a ferry from Mykonos to Santorini with brief stops at Naxos and Ios islands.
On Santorini, we got a ride from the ferry dock to our hotel with a great view of the ferry leaving the island.
We stayed at Grace Santorini for our final 4 nights. You have to walk down some stairs to get to this hotel (and many of the hotels in the Imerovigli area). This hotel has a great view of the two Santorini volcano islands (Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni) and Skaros rock. Skaros was created by ancient volcanic activity and served as the island’s medieval capital. Remnants of a 13th-century Venetian fortress are on Skaros.
On Santorini, we took a tour of the island starting from near our hotel in Imerovigli (a village on a clifftop of the west shore overlooking Santorini’s caldera islands) and first visited Oia (a coastal town on the northwestern tip of Santorini) and walked the main walkway.
Our tour guide, Harry, then drove us to Pyrgos (southcentral inland part of island) where we also walked around. .
We then visited a bakery in Megalochori.
We finished our day with a drive thru Akrotiri (southwest Santorini) and a stop at the cliffs above Red Beach (southwest shore).
We then returned to Imerovigli.
The next day, we walked from Imerovigli to Fira on the walkway along the Santorini caldera.
We spent our final day in Santorini walking and shopping in Oia, followed by dinner at our hotel.
